Easter Weekend!
Last weekend was Easter, and I had a great three-day break. Since I am from out of state, going home often becomes difficult and I knew that with only three days off, there would be no point in going home. The drive is 8 hours, so I wouldn’t have been able to leave until Friday, and I would have had to drive back on Sunday, so I didn’t find it worth it to go home for one actual day with my family. I am not trying to complain; I signed up for this when I decided to move to a different state for school. However, It is sometimes hard seeing many of my friends go home during short breaks and having to stay here because it is too far for me to go home. I did get lucky, though, because my uncles actually live in Columbus and let me stay with them for the weekend! I visited them a lot last semester because we had more three-day weekend breaks, but this semester, between 60x60 and Hello Dolly! I just haven’t had the time to spend a weekend with them. I just wanted to take the time to talk about what made this weekend special for me and everything I got to do with my uncles and cousin.
I left on Thursday after class, but since I didn’t get to leave until 7 pm, I didn’t get to their house until closer to 9 pm due to traffic. That night, I just worked on some homework due Friday night. On Friday, I spent most of the day with my cousin, which was nice. Both my uncles are a part of or own a private practice, which means they often decide the times they work per week, and both of them need to go into the office to get some things done before closing up for the weekend. That meant that my cousin and I were free all day to almost do whatever we wanted. In the morning, she had softball practice, so I took their dog on a nice walk while I waited for her to be done. I had to go run some errands and asked if she wanted to come along. First, we went to Target because I needed to find an all-white outfit for an upcoming event with my sorority this Friday. Unfortunately, we didn’t find anything there, but we did have some luck at Old Navy and I bought a white shirt. I also had to buy materials to make a poster for something with my major. After running our errands, we got back home, and I did homework while a friend of hers came over. We had a delicious dinner at this really good Mexican restaurant, and then, you guessed it, I finished the night getting some more work done to try and be ahead on homework for the week.
On Saturday, we went to this great diner for breakfast, and the food was incredible. We came back home, and both my uncles and cousin had some things to do during the day, so I was alone for a good chunk of the day. During that time, I took a quick 30-minute nap and read more of a play I had to finish for one of my classes by Monday. One of my uncles had to run some errands, so I decided to take a break and go with him. We picked up a honey ham they were going to eat for Easter and returned a dress for my cousin before going home. We even got a slushy from Taco Bell before coming home. Honestly, I miss the moments I appreciate more when I can’t go home and have a fun time with my family without having to think or stress about school. After getting home, I ate lunch and watched YouTube before getting ready for church later in the evening. Since we had to leave at 8:15 pm, I got ready around 7:30 to avoid being late. I will admit it was a nice service, but it was slightly longer than I was hoping for because it was 2 hours and 15 minutes, so we didn’t get home until 11:00 pm. Anyway, after getting back home, I still had to pack so that I would be able to leave quickly in the morning. Unfortunately, packing took me longer than expected, and I didn’t go to bed until 1 am.
On Sunday, my uncles were driving to Cleveland to visit family, so I decided to leave to go back to school at the same time they had left. As much as I wanted to stay with them during Easter, Cleveland is even farther than Columbus from here, and I knew that I needed to get back to unpack and get some work done to prepare for classes on Monday. Before leaving, they also surprised me with a super sweet Easter basket. They got me some soda, candy, chocolate and a lovely card. I was shocked and wasn’t expecting them to get me anything, so it was a beautiful surprise to get before leaving their house.
Overall, I had a great weekend, and I am grateful to have spent my Easter with my family! Growing up in North Carolina, I didn’t get to hang out with my uncles and cousin very often, so it is nice being a lot closer with them, and I can’t wait to hopefully see them very soon!
Kelsey, I'm so glad you got to spend Easter with your family! I try not to take the fact that I live only two hours away from here for granted because there's lots of students who live out of state, even though it feels long for me sometimes. It sounds like you had a really fun weekend, even if you spent a good amount of it doing homework.
