SPRING BREAK!
Last week was spring break, and I wanted to share what I did during my week off. It is well known, but in case you don't know, I am from North Carolina, so I drove home on Saturday, March 8. Throughout the week, I spent time with friends and family, did homework to get ahead, and relaxed by watching TV and reading my book. And while I didn't go to exotic places like Turks and Caicos or even travel within the U.S., staying at home was the perfect way to spend my spring break. Since I live far away, I only get to see my family during breaks, so I take any chance to be with them. I will talk more about what I did and how my friends and family made my spring break fun and exciting.
One fun thing I got to do was catch up with my close friends from high school. On Tuesday, I spent time with my best friend Ronke, with whom I grew up dancing. We decided to get Chinese food and then went to the local mall to catch up, as we hadn’t seen each other since December. Even though we didn’t do anything exciting, I loved being in her company. Since we’ve been friends for many years, we’ve learned to value the time we spend together, even if we talk the entire time. I am so grateful to have her in my life because I know I can always be myself around her and enjoy the memories we create when we hang out.
Another fun experience was catching up with some old high school friends. Two of them are still in high school, while the other is a freshman. Before anyone judges, we all worked on the musical production of Anastasia that our school put together last spring, which brought us close. From then on, I tried to see them when I came home from break because I didn’t want to lose these friendships, especially since Anastasia meant so much to all of us. It was the first musical my high school had put on in five years, and since we all wanted it to succeed, we became very close friends. All three of them mean a lot to me, and I’m glad we had the chance to talk after not seeing each other since November.
Even though it was spring break, I did some homework to get ahead for the next two months of chaos. I have to stay up late during the semester since I have rehearsal until 10 p.m. and lots of homework to finish every night. Don’t get me wrong, my break was great. I got to catch up on sleep and do the things I wanted, but I also knew that if I didn’t do any homework, I’d have so much to do in a limited amount of time. I couldn’t get everything done, but I did enough so I wouldn’t be stressed the first week back at school.
Lastly, one of my favorite things I did this break was watching more classic movies with my dad. Ever since I was a little kid, my dad and I have watched movies, specifically classics made during the 1920s and 30s, but any movie together to spend time with one another since we both had busy schedules. It was the only way we could find something to bond over consistently. Honestly, watching those movies as a kid is part of the reason I love acting so much. On break, we didn’t watch specifically classic movies, but we did watch a few iconic films from the 1990s, such as The Rock and My Cousin Vinny. These films were both amazing and changed the way I thought films could affect an audience. Even though neither focused on anything heavy, I was thoroughly invested the entire time, which is a testament to the writing, directing, and acting of both films. Overall, I loved watching these two movies with my dad because they reminded me of when I was a kid and expanded my vocabulary and knowledge of great movies. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to watch movies much since I’ve been in school, so I take these kinds of breaks to squeeze in a few films before getting back to the grind of schoolwork.
Spring break was chill yet fun and much needed. Now, I feel refreshed and ready to take on the next few months of school before the end of the year!
It sounds like you had a very good week Kelsey! I'm glad that you were able to go home and catch up with friends and family. I too was able to enjoy doing fun things with my family while being home!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a productive, but exciting spring break! I totally understand the joy of seeing your old friends on break. Since Linnea was in Florida I didn't get to see her, but I finally got to see my other best friend, Nate. He was at a swim competition over Christmas break and wound up with Covid, so I hadn't seen him since Thanksgiving. Connecting with him and seeing our friends perform in the high school show was the perfect way to spend my spring break. I'm so glad you got to see all your favorite people though!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE Anastasia! I have seen the show several times and used to watch the movie on repeat. Reconnecting with theatre friends is always the best, but even just in general its nice to see everyone! Sounds like you had a nice relaxing spring break!
