Marketing With Pinterest

Did you know that Pinterest wasn't founded until 2009? That means I was three when the app was created! That's wild! I know that most social media was made during the late 1990s and early 2000s, but it's just surprising to think that I was a toddler when this app was created. I believe that Pinterest is not the best place for marketing because it isn't used as often or by many people as other social media apps. Eventually, it could be used to market businesses, but it's best for personal branding. One thing that makes Pinterest interesting to users is that you can save or pin things that interest you and create a board with similar things you can share with your friends and family. For branding, it is crucial to understand that Pinterest has a different algorithm to help you get the best outreach and followers possible. To understand the algorithm of Pinterest, it is crucial to know the three terms and how they relate to each other:

Domain Quality:

Domain quality is the popularity of pins from a specific website. The more pins from the website clicked, shared, or interacted with, the higher the ranking it receives.

Pin Quality:

Pin quality is measured by the popularity of specific pins. The higher the quality of the pin, the higher it will be featured on the Pinterest home feed. The number of interactions or repins also dictates the quality of the pin.

Pinner Quality:

Pinner Quality is how Pinterest scores content creators and pinners. This includes original content and reposted pins. You build up your pinner quality by interacting with brand or persona profiles.

Relevance:

Lastly, Pinterest uses keywords to determine what content should be distributed and where to ensure it reaches the right audience. Keywords are also helpful in determining the topic-specific pins' relatedness to and relevance to that particular topic. Applying keywords to pin/create titles, descriptions, videos and images will help Pinterest rank pins in the application.

Knowing these definitions and understanding how they can help you is the first step to being seen by the algorithm. I don't use Pinterest very much, and as I mentioned before, it isn't the best platform for marketing purposes. If you do want to spread your brand through Pinterest, you certainly can. This is just one tip you can use to create a stronger outreach among other users. I hope this was helpful in your journey with Pinterest!
