Being Sick!
This weekend was one of the worst I've had since being at school. I hate being sick, especially when I'm hundreds of miles away from home and can't be with my family to keep me company. Long story short, I'm pretty sure I had the norovirus. On Saturday, I felt fine; I had a sitzprobe in the morning for “Hello Dolly!”, and then I went to lunch and basically stayed in my room the rest of the day doing laundry and cleaning. I did hang out with some friends later at night, around 9 p.m., but I still felt fine at the time. It wasn't until later in the night that I started to feel sick. After returning to my room, I started feeling bad around 11 pm and knew something was likely wrong. I took a quick cold shower to see if that would help and then sat at my desk to try and relax. Sure enough, I started throwing up non stop for what felt like at least five minutes. However, it doesn't just stop there; throughout the night, I woke up multiple times because I had to throw up. Needless to say, I didn't get a whole lot of sleep. Honestly, the throwing up subsided mid-day Sunday, but the thing that was the worst was my stomach. I had a horrible stomach ache basically all of Sunday and could barely eat anything. Unfortunately, the health center wasn't open, so I couldn't find out what was making me feel sick, nor could I get any medication for it. Most of the day I just spent doing homework and napping because I was so tired. Even though I couldn't eat anything, I continuously felt dehydrated and kept drinking water, which I also eventually threw up. Since I couldn't drink or eat anything, I had to stay busy to distract myself. The stereotypical belief we see on social media and through TV is that when you are sick, you lay in bed all day, drink soup, and feel like you are being taken care of. That, however, is not reality. Not only am I an out-of-state student, so I can't be with my family, but I am also a college student who still has homework and cleaning to do. I made sure to pace myself, but I couldn't just do nothing because then I would be far behind later in the week, making recovery even harder. With “Hello Dolly!” in full swing, it was not the time to get sick. Even though I am a swing and technically not performing in the show, I need to be ready if something happens and I have to go in for someone. Overall, this wasn't the most sick I have ever been, but I definitely didn't feel great, and it certainly made my weekend interesting.
Well I know it has been quite some time since you posted this blog, but I hope you are feeling better now. It must have been disappointing to have little to no resources to help you get better, other than your home remedies. I hope you are feeling well now or at least getting well. I hope you are able to make it to your classes alright. Best wishes -VA
