Winter Break Activities and Starting the New Semester
It's the first week back to school and I already miss winter break. I am grateful to have had days with a little bit of everything. Between the long days of crazy traveling and lounge slow days at home, I am grateful to have done it all. A few days after Christmas, my family went down to Orlando to see my older sister who works at Seaworld! We helped her move into a new apartment and saw all of the holiday decorations around the park. The animal shows were undeniably some of the coolest things to see and I loved the balance between the attractions and the animal exhibits. We spent new years at the park and it was an experience for the books! We got hot chocolate, saw an ice skating show and found a great spot to watch the fireworks that encapsulated the entire park.
After coming back from Orlando, I had one day before traveling to Germany! I know what you may be thinking but, my cousin is a flight attendant and as a high school graduation gift she said she would take me to someplace in Europe. To be honest, Germany wasn’t the ideal place to go since I didn’t have any correlation to the country, but after finishing the trip I can’t help but be glad to have gone. We stayed on the outskirts of the city of Munich, a small town rich with culture and history. Throughout the trip we ate amazing food, saw tourist destinations, beautiful architecture, and went to local shops. We even saw Neuschwanstein Castle, which inspired the Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World! Now thinking about it, this trip became one of my favorites because my cousin and I were just able to do what we wanted without having to have a specific plan.
After my trip, I came back home and had a week before flying to school for the new semester. That week I mainly stayed at home chilling around the house. I enjoyed having the time to relax at home with friends and family.
Coming back to school, I was a little nervous because of the way last semester went. We had a lot of change occurring within our department and it just became hard to enjoy going to class every day not knowing what was happening with my program. While it was tough, I tried to go into this semester with a different mindset. I want to focus on getting better artistically and personally and stop worrying about things I cannot control. In order to do this, I started creating a plan to balance everything I want to get done and keep me busy throughout the day. Between rehearsals, practicing audition material, homework and classes, the schedule I made wasn’t ideal in terms of longevity and preventing burnout. So this semester I am working on making a better schedule for myself with everything I need to get done to be successful. Overall I am glad to be back on campus with all my friends and I am excited to see what the next few months have in store.
